Texas Education Agency Responsibilities

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is responsible for:

  1. Providing training on the data collection process;
  2. Explaining the overall data requirements to ESC personnel; and
  3. Assisting ESCs in understanding the data requirements.
  4. Supporting the ESCs during the PEIMS and TSDS Submissions.

To facilitate the data validation process, TEA provides the ESCs, software vendors, and LEAs with a standard data validation and reporting system using the Ed-Fi Core standards with Texas extensions. Validations and reports are available to ensure data accuracy and completeness.

Specifically, TEA provides:

  1. Data reporting requirements
  2. Data Validation criteria
  3. Descriptor tables
  4. Data Validation Reports and
  5. User documentation and training to each Regional ESC.

There are three data validation error levels:

  1. Fatal error - Indicates a critical error in the data. Neither an LEA nor an ESC can mark data “complete” with fatal error(s). Data with a fatal error(s) will not be accepted by TEA for any TSDS collection and must be corrected.
  2. Special warning error - Indicates a potential discrepancy in the data that must be scrutinized carefully and corrected when needed.
  3. Warning error - Indicates a possible error or inconsistency. A Warning error must be reviewed for data accuracy.
