Texas Education Agency Responsibilities
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is responsible for:
- Providing training on the data collection process;
- Explaining the overall data requirements to ESC personnel; and
- Assisting ESCs in understanding the data requirements.
- Supporting the ESCs during the PEIMS and TSDS Submissions.
To facilitate the data validation process, TEA provides the ESCs, software vendors, and LEAs with a standard data validation and reporting system using the Ed-Fi Core standards with Texas extensions. Validations and reports are available to ensure data accuracy and completeness.
Specifically, TEA provides:
- Data reporting requirements
- Data Validation criteria
- Descriptor tables
- Data Validation Reports and
- User documentation and training to each Regional ESC.
There are three data validation error levels:
- Fatal error - Indicates a critical error in the data. Neither an LEA nor an ESC can mark data “complete” with fatal error(s). Data with a fatal error(s) will not be accepted by TEA for any TSDS collection and must be corrected.
- Special warning error - Indicates a potential discrepancy in the data that must be scrutinized carefully and corrected when needed.
- Warning error - Indicates a possible error or inconsistency. A Warning error must be reviewed for data accuracy.
