Early Childhood Data System (ECDS)
The Early Childhood Data System collects prekindergarten and kindergarten data related to early childhood education. Data collected for ECDS includes student demographics, staff data, classroom details, special program data, and assessment data. The purpose of ECDS is to inform parents, school administrators, the public, statewide stakeholders, the community, and policymakers about the quality of early childhood education and help direct resources in an informed manner. The ECDS collection aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of early childhood education and its impact on student outcomes.

Reporting ECDS Kindergarten Data to TEA
Kindergarten Assessment Data
Local Education Agencies (LEAs) who administer the TX-KEA or the identified alternate assessment are required to collect and report assessment results to TEA for the Beginning of Year (BOY) administration. All student, staff, and classroom data will be promoted by the LEA to TSDS.
The LEA’s assessment vendor will provide the ECDS assessment data directly to TEA.
Prekindergarten Assessment Data
Districts and open-enrollment charter schools providing full-day prekindergarten for four-year-olds must collect data on student progress in health and wellness, language and communication, emergent literacy reading, emergent literacy writing, and mathematics. Data is collected at the beginning and end of the year using approved tools from the Commissioner’s List. All student, staff, and classroom data will be promoted by the LEA to TSDS.
The LEA’s assessment vendor will provide the ECDS assessment data directly to TEA.
