Advanced Search options are available in the Search by screens. The options available depend on the level of search performed: school, district, county, region, or state.
Selecting Advanced Search Options
You can choose to refine your search by selecting any combination of School Types from among the following: Public (Does Not Include Charters), Open Enrollment Charter, or Campus Charter.
Contact information for private schools is not maintained by TEA. Visit the Texas Private School Accreditation Commission website for private school contact information.
You can choose to refine your search by selecting any combination of Instruction Types from among the following: Regular, Alternative, Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program (JJAEP), and Discipline Alternative Education Program (DAEP).
You can choose to restrict your search by selecting Magnets Only (magnet school or a school having a magnet program).
A magnet school or a school having a magnet program is defined as the following:
A designation by the local school district of a school that offers a special curriculum of courses for students who are in the district but not necessarily in the home school. For the purposes of being identified as a magnet school or a school with a magnet program in AskTED, the program must be open to students outside of the home school.
Note: |
For open-enrollment charter schools, the requirement that magnet schools or magnet programs be open to students outside of the home school is not applicable. However, campus charter schools (those that are part of an ISD) that are magnet schools or have magnet programs must meet this requirement. |
You can choose to restrict your search by selecting Residential Facilities Only.
Under Texas Education Code §5.001(8), residential facility is defined as the following:
(A) A facility operated by a state agency or political subdivision, including a child placement agency, that provides 24-hour custody or care of a person 22 years of age or younger, if the person resides in the facility for detention, treatment, foster care, or any noneducational purpose; and
(B) Any person or entity that contracts with or is funded, licensed, certified, or regulated by a state agency or political subdivision to provide custody or care for a person under Paragraph (A).
Important: |
If a student resides in a residential facility and receives instruction from a campus separate from the residential facility, the campus providing the instruction is not classified as residential. |
You can choose to restrict your search by selecting Registered for Alternative Education Accountability (AEA) Only.
Registered for AEA indicates that a campus is registered to be evaluated under alternative education accountability procedures for state accountability ratings. Please note the distinction between campuses listed in AskTED with the Instruction Type of Alternative Instructional and campuses listed as Registered for AEA. Alternative Instructional in AskTED is designated by the district and does not mean this campus is automatically evaluated under AEA. To be evaluated under AEA, please see the information on the TEA website regarding AEA.
You can choose to refine your search by selecting any combination of District Types from among the following: Independent/Common, Open Enrollment Charter, TX Juvenile Justice Department, or School for the Deaf/Blind.
You can choose to restrict your search by either Grades or Grade Levels, but not both. The grades taught at each grade level are specified in the chart below.
Note: |
A campus's grade level in AskTED may not match that used for the campus in other TEA reports. Campuses in AskTED may include a grade or grades not being served for the current school year. Some TEA reports base grade levels on grades actually served in a particular school year, whereas AskTED grade levels are based on grades eligible to be served. |
Campuses are divided into types according to the range of grades offered. The chart below shows the possible combinations of low and high grades for each of the campus types. For example, a campus offering a low grade of KG, found along the left edge of the grid, and a high grade of 8, found along the top edge of the grid, is classified as an elementary school, while a school with a low grade of 7 and a high grade of 12 is classified as a high school. Note that other TEA reports do not always include a separate category for junior high schools.
Counts of the number of campuses with each low and high grade combination are shown in the cells. The counts may change—refer to the AskTED report "School Counts" under "School Reports" for the most current counts by grade level and instruction type.
Whenever you see a Clear button next to a Select All button, the Clear button unchecks all the check boxes in the group immediately below the button pair, and the Select All button checks them all. A fast way to select all but a few options is to click Select All, then uncheck the few you do not want.
